Rocks and Roots, 2015-2016 This set of images captures the intimate nature of the embrace of rocks and roots in a New England wood. Seemingly static, yet ever changing, these portraits capture relationships that are both familiar and sacred. The woods are dominated by giant granite boulders enfolded by roots that slowly break the hard stone and allow wind and water to erode the stone into soil. Over time water erodes the rock but the trees protect the granite from rapid erosion. In these woods life unfolds driven by these subtle and ancient forces. And the images capture a moment in this cycle of life and death… growth and change in the timeless bonds of rocks and roots.
